What are "efficiency measurements" and "compliance measurements"?

Combustion process optimisationVirtually every heavy industrial process involves a combustion process.  These combustion processes result in the emissions of harmful pollutants, collectively called flue gas.
Flue gas analysers are required to perform measurements of the gases.

Official emissions measurements

Typical applications that are considered an environmental concern and require emissions monitoring by law include:

  1. Engine and Diesel Testing
  2. Gas Turbine Plants
  3. Process Heaters and Boilers
  4. Power Plants
  5. Refineries
  6. Cement/Lime Production
  7. Ceramics/Bricks

Measurement of NO, NO2, SO2 is usually required, in lesser instances H2S and sometimes unburned hydrocarbons. In most cases a calculation of the mass of pollutants has to be performed. For this, velocity of the gases in the stack is required, as well as ambient air conditions under which the measurement has taken place. The testo 350 is the ideal instrument.

Efficiency measurements

Apart from legislative environmental monitoring, other reasons for flue gas analysis include:

  1. Optimum adjustment of the burner (fuel savings)
  2. Monitoring the gas purification plant performance

Ensuring safety of personnel and plants (fire and explosion protection)

What is your experience with optimising your combustion processes?
